Q & A

What drew you to this profession?

In many ways, the profession found me. I am a natural problem solver who thrives on complexity, connection, and the challenge of turning an ambitious idea into a working growth engine.

Throughout my career, I have been especially drawn to building partner programs and marketing functions from the ground up. I love creating ecosystems in which partners become loyal, profitable advocates—because they see real value for their customers, their businesses, and the relationship.

Full-funnel marketing and partnerships both sit at the intersection of product, sales, customers, and the broader market. That is where I do my best work: connecting people and opportunities, bringing structure to complexity, and building strategies that generate measurable, sustainable growth.

How would you describe your approach to your work?

I lead with a bias for action and a strong sense of ownership. I believe in making smart decisions with the best information available, moving forward, measuring results, and adjusting quickly. I set a high bar, but I never let perfection become an obstacle to progress.

My style is direct, practical, and no-nonsense, while still making room for energy, collaboration, and fun. I create clarity, connect people to a shared purpose, and give teams the trust and accountability they need to do exceptional work. The goal is always the same: build momentum, deliver meaningful results, and enjoy the challenge along the way.

What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?

I am proud of the many milestones I have achieved throughout my career—from building teams and marketing functions from the ground up to scaling revenue, creating new go-to-market models, and improving the customer experience. I have learned that success is rarely a single finish line. Each result raises the bar and creates the next opportunity to grow.

What makes me proudest, however, is the impact I have had on people. More than twenty-seven professionals who have worked for me have gone on to earn promotions or meaningful recognition for their contributions. Many former colleagues have also sought me out for the opportunity to work together again. To me, that is one of the strongest measures of leadership: delivering results while helping talented people see what they are capable of and creating an environment where they can thrive.

What values guide the way you work?

Honesty, directness, and respect are foundational to how I lead. I believe people do their best work when expectations are clear, communication is candid, and everyone is treated with integrity.

I also believe leadership begins with example. I hold myself to a high standard, take responsibility for outcomes, and bring the same discipline, preparation, and commitment that I expect from my team. Direct communication and genuine respect are not competing ideas—in my experience, together they build trust, strengthen teams, and produce better results.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your profession?

Stay in learning mode. Be curious about the entire business, not only your immediate role, and take every opportunity to understand the customer more deeply. Trust your instincts, but test them against data, experience, and honest feedback.

Most importantly, never overlook an opportunity to help a customer, partner, or colleague solve a meaningful problem. Careers are built through consistent contribution, strong relationships, and a willingness to step forward when something needs to be done.

Testimonials

Nell Kennedy Head of Commercial Software & Partner Marketing, Cloud and Software, Lenovo

“Dawn is one of those rare leaders I would follow just about anywhere—and I say ‘just about’ only because she occasionally has ideas that require an alarming amount of work.

I trust her instincts implicitly because I have seen, time and again, her ability to see around corners, make the hard call, and bring people along with her. She has been a manager, mentor, advocate, and trusted voice throughout my career, and I am a better leader because of her.

Any organization would be incredibly fortunate to have Dawn at the table. I will always be firmly in her corner.”

Russell Griffin CRO, SW-Led GTM, Lenovo, Cloud and Software

Her ability to align with sales and operations to produce revenue growth and profitability from partner and channel activities is unmatched. She is the rare marketer who understands how critical the alignment between sales, marketing, and the partner community they serve is to building ecosystems that both grow revenue and add value to the customers those partners serve.”
